Carnegie Investment Bank
Software developer, scrum master • Employee • 2021–2022
Assignment
Developed integrations between back-office and trading systems, as well as internal applications used by brokers to manage customers' securities portfolios, in a team of four to five developers.
Contribution
Daniel worked as both software developer and scrum master, representing the team at Scrum of Scrums and architecture meetings. He helped successfully deliver the team's systems during a back-office system replacement, then continued developing their applications and microservices. Alongside new features, he migrated codebases from .NET Core 3.1 to .NET 6 and added unit tests and automatic database updates to the CI/CD pipeline. He regularly reviewed code, wrote release notes, deployed microservices and resolved urgent user issues. His team leader and manager valued his initiative and willingness to work across all parts of the systems.

Cellink
Team leader, software developer • Consulting assignment • 2019–2021
Team leader
Assignment
Led six colleagues developing in WPF, AWS and Flutter. The team built the graphical interface for the upcoming CELLCYTE X microscope, which researchers can schedule to photograph cell samples.
Contribution
Daniel worked with the product owner to turn feature requests into technical requirements. He provided estimates, designed interfaces and removed obstacles for the team. He supported colleagues, planned and assigned tasks, tested and reviewed their work, and managed software releases. Together with the embedded team leader, he designed the APIs between the systems. He also investigated bugs reported by testers, contributed code and worked with sales staff and installers to provide technical support and gather feedback.
Technologies
.NET software developer
Assignment
Built a Windows application from scratch in a team of two to seven developers for the upcoming CELLCYTE X microscope, which researchers can schedule to photograph cell samples.
Contribution
Daniel and his colleagues built a Windows-based WPF application from scratch. His knowledge of the microscope's embedded system helped him onboard colleagues and contribute to integration. As the team varied considerably in size, he became an important point of continuity. He also took substantial responsibility for software releases and implemented automated unit and GUI tests.
Technologies
C++ software developer
Assignment
Developed the embedded system for the upcoming CELLCYTE X microscope with two colleagues. The microscope allows researchers to schedule photographs of cell samples.
Contribution
Daniel worked on an embedded Linux (ARM) system built with Yocto, extending the C++17 application that contained most of its logic. He implemented storage of experiment data in SQLite with automatic database schema updates. He also worked on Python scripts, hardware calibration and changes to the microscope's 3D printer software, written in C and based on Marlin Firmware. The team used test-driven development with high unit-test coverage requirements.

Avarn Security
Security guard • On-call employee • 2020–2021
Worked as an on-call security guard. Avarn's planners offered shifts when staff were needed, so the duties varied. Assignments included night shifts outside a hospital's emergency ambulance entrance, at an outdoor swimming pool and on a construction site, evening shifts in shopping centres, and daytime guarding outside a detention centre.
Lab Gruppen
Software developer • Consulting assignment • 2020–2020
Assignment
Daniel and two colleagues helped port an embedded software solution written in C and assembly to another hardware platform with a different digital signal processor (DSP).
Contribution
Daniel implemented configuration data transfer from Linux on the ARM processor core to the DSP core, enabling control of settings such as volume and equalisation.
Technologies
Mentice
Lead developer • Consulting assignment • 2017–2019
iOS app
Assignment
Developed an iPad app demonstrating clinical instruments for endovascular surgery. Daniel was initially the sole iOS developer and became lead developer for two colleagues in two follow-up projects.
Contribution
Daniel implemented a surgical simulation with 3D models of surgical instruments. He also integrated a physical instrument communicating with the iPad over Bluetooth (BLE), allowing users to perform selected steps of the procedure. The customer received the project well, leading to two follow-up projects with Daniel leading two colleagues.
Technologies
Web app
Assignment
Daniel led two developers in planning and implementing a new version of a web application where doctors could launch exercises in a surgical simulator and review previous results. The new version added advanced metrics collection, benchmark comparisons, multiple languages and configurable simulator exercises.
Contribution
Daniel participated from requirements through implementation. He defined work packages and estimates, drew interface mockups and created entity-relationship diagrams for the new database model. After the customer approved the plan, he implemented a large part of the backend and frontend alongside two colleagues, meeting regularly with the customer for feedback. The customer was very pleased with the result.

Consilium Marine & Safety
Team leader, lead developer, software developer • Consulting assignment • 2016–2020
Windows configuration application
Assignment
Led two colleagues in planning and rewriting a configuration application for monitoring systems that detect gas leaks aboard cargo ships.
Contribution
Daniel worked from requirements through implementation, conducting a feasibility study with work packages, estimates and interface mockups. He then took responsibility for software architecture, customer communication and much of the implementation. He assigned tasks, tested and reviewed colleagues' work, and integrated the monitoring system's C++ configuration parser into the C#/WPF application. He used test-driven development with automated unit and GUI tests and handled the handover when Consilium took over maintenance.
Technologies
Windows fire alarm management system
Assignment
Solely responsible for maintaining and developing a large Windows application used on ships' bridges to visualise all fire detectors across the decks and their status.
Contribution
Daniel added features, improved the interface and performance, fixed bugs and provided technical support. The interface used C# and WPF, while the communication layer used C++. He also developed a simulator to replay and simulate fire-system traffic for testing and demonstrations. The customer particularly appreciated his help during evenings and weekends when needed. He also fixed bugs in the legacy application, built with C++, MFC and Visual C++ 6, which remained in use on some ships.
Technologies
Web-based product lifecycle management system
Assignment
Solely responsible for maintaining and developing Consilium's Aras Innovator installation, a PLM system documenting components, documents, change history and software for fire and gas safety products.
Contribution
Daniel worked on both frontend and backend, adding features for data presentation, exports and permissions. He also upgraded Aras Innovator to new versions.
Technologies
Ericsson
Software developer • Employee • 2015–2016
Assignment
Solely responsible for porting an advanced Excel workbook with around 30 linked worksheets to Python. The workbook estimated server load based on a mobile operator's traffic, providing input for customer quotations.
Contribution
Daniel independently carried out the migration and implemented more advanced modelling that had not been possible in Excel. He also built a graphical web interface.

What a former colleague says
“Daniel was a developer on many consulting projects, some of them with me. He took considerable responsibility for planning, leadership and delivery, as well as direct customer contact. He was widely regarded, including by management, as a Swiss Army knife who could be sent into any software project and shine.”

About Kalyna
“Kalyna” is the Ukrainian word “Калина” written in Latin letters. It is a plant known in English as guelder rose. It is a traditional Ukrainian symbol whose berries represent the homeland. In Ukraine, the guelder rose appears in songs, art, embroidery and poetry. One now well-known song is “Oh, the Red Viburnum in the Meadow”, written in 1914. Its original title is “Ой у лузі червона калина”, and it is still sung today.
